Competency Description:

All leaders have influence. Developing strong leadership skills by applying proven leadership principles

will ensure you add value to your organization and to the people you lead. Understanding leadership and

management frameworks will be critical to your success in addressing business problems and

opportunities.

For this Short Answer Assessment, you will answer a series of short answer items to

demonstrate your understanding how to apply leadership and management frameworks and

theories to effectively address business problems and opportunities. This Short-Answer

Assessment is based on the various case studies and other materials provided. You will

answer general questions about each case, calling upon your understanding of leadership

practices and frameworks. You will then answer reflection questions, relating the practices

and frameworks to your personal and professional experiences. Applying these leadership

practices and frameworks both inside and outside of the workplace will prepare you to be a

strong and effective leader.

Assessment Submission Length: Short Answer Assessment form on which you will answer

questions related to 4 cases. Approximately 2-4 pages of writing per case.

Sub-Competencies:

o Specify elements of leadership theories that explain how leaders can be more effective in

addressing business problems and opportunities.

o Analyze the role of values in leadership for affecting positive social change and creating value.

o Discern the qualities of leadership that theories and practice suggest will lead to more effective

leadership from those qualities that are toxic to effective leadership.

o Apply appropriate leadership behaviors, based on contingency theory, to match with relevant

organizational contexts.

o Apply appropriate leadership and followership styles, based on contingency approaches, with

relevant organizational contexts.
