Wk 5 - Summative Assessment: The Future of Public Health [due Mon]

Exam Content

  1. Review The Future of the Public’s Health in the 21st Century from the University Library. See Appendix C for the Recommendations.

This report is an evolution of the Institute of Medicine’s original 1988 report titled, The Future of Public Health, and contains numerous recommendations for changes to the existing public health system.

Read about the following topics specifically from the report:

    1. Understanding population health and its determinants
    2. The government public health and infrastructure
    3. The healthcare delivery system

Research 4 to 6 of these recommendations and answer the following questions:

    • What qualitative and quantitative evidence-based reasoning was used to arrive at these recommendations? What were the guiding factors, goals, and desired outcomes?
    • What kind of policy development, service changes, and functions of public health were made as a result, if any? What was the efficacy and outcome of these changes?
    • If no identifiable changes were made based on these recommendations, why not? Does the original issue still exist, or has it been solved since this report by other means?

Summarize your findings and answers in a 5- to 10-slide presentation (not including an introductory, conclusion, or reference slide). Make sure to cite your sources and provide speaker notes for all slides. At least 3 sources are required, 1 being scholarly.
