Dealing With Community Change in CBPR

For this discussion, refer to Chapter 5 of Community-Based Participatory Research .

   •Read Chapter 5.

       ◦ Pay attention to question 3 on page 106.  This question is relevant to this part of the discussion.


1. Compare the dissemination of results in CBPR studies to program evaluation.

2. Explain how community partners can use CBPR data to take action.

     • Articulate best practices for engaging community partners around controversial issues.


Then consider the following scenario: You have gotten a grant to conduct a CBPR project about the high rates of sexually transmitted diseases in your community.   However, the community leader you were working with has moved away and you discover that the community is conflicted about this project.


Discuss how you would address this controversy and reengage the community.
